9月に全国すべての都道府県から2万8000人が参加する大規模インターネット調査を実施し、居住地の特性(人口密度の度合い・地域の貧困の度合い・地域の新型コロナウイルス感染者数)と新型コロナウイルス感染症流行下におけるメンタルヘルスの関連について、下記の知見を明らかにしました。
1.人口密度が高い地域(都市部)、貧困の度合いが高い地域に住んでいる程メンタルヘルスが悪化している割合が高かった。
2. 新型コロナウイルス感染者が多い地域に住んでいることとメンタルヘルスの悪化に関連はなかった。
3.新型コロナウイルス感染症流行後に出現した自殺念慮に関しては、最も人口密度が高い地域(都市部)で1.83倍、貧困の度合いが最も高い地域で1.35倍割合が高かった。
これらの知見は、新型コロナウイルス感染症流行下において居住地域が心理的苦痛・自殺念慮に与える影響を示した初めての研究です。本研究の結果は、メンタルヘルスの悪化が、新型コロナウイルス感染症患者発生の有無に関わらず全国的な問題であり、特に人口密度が高い地域、貧困の度合いが高い地域であるほど、深刻であることを示しています。人口知能技術や遠隔診療のような広範に届けられる技術を活用し、居住地域によってアクセスが制限されない方法でメンタルヘルスの支援を行うことが、精神疾患罹患・自殺予防には重要であると考えられます。
この研究成果は、日本時間2021年3月24日午後8時に国際精神医学誌「Journal of Affective
Disorders」オンライン版に掲載されました。
